FIVE BUILDERS AWARDED WITH UTAH’S FIRST GREEN HOME CERTIFICATIONS

(Oct. 20, 2008) – Build Green Utah, a nonprofit organization that promotes green home building in Utah, has recently presented the first ever Green Home Certifications in the state of Utah. The builders of these homes are being recognized for their leadership in raising the bar of home-building in Utah. Through the use of the Built Green® Checklist, the builders produced energy efficient, durable, healthy homes that earned noteworthy recognition and passed 3rd party inspections to qualify as Certified Green Homes under the Build Green Utah program.

The builders of these homes are: Magleby Companies Inc. with a Green Home in Midway, Gold Medallion Homes with a Green Home in Daybreak, Liberty Homes with a Green Home in Daybreak, Thomas Laakso with a Green Home in Promontory, and PCR with Utah’s first certified Green Remodel located in Park City.

"These five innovators have set a new leadership standard for Utah,” said Meghan Golden, program manger for Build Green Utah. “We encourage others in the home building industry to follow suit and employ green home building practices coupled with 3rd party certifications.”

Green Homes are evaluated in several categories including energy efficiency, site design, water conservation, materials and resource efficiency, and health and safety. Categories and requirements are identified in the 2008 Built Green® Checklist which can be acquired by contacting Build Green Utah at 435-645-9363, info@BuildGreenUtah.org, or www.BuildGreenUtah.org.

“Building Green benefits not only the building company and the buyer, but it strengthens the whole community through the mindful and efficient use of shared resources, and the added attention toward minimizing the impact on surrounding areas,” said Golden. “Additionally, green homes perform better than standard homes and they provide a significant benefit for the homeowner through financial savings in the home’s operating costs.”

Green Homes are built to last with high standards of quality and intelligent building practices. They provide healthy indoor air quality and they protect Utah’s natural surrounding. Green Homes ensure the future welfare of the environment, economy and community through a conscious, ethical approach to building. Build Green Utah is grateful to its program sponsors: Rocky Mountain Power/Energy Star, Jack B. Parson Cos, Park City Municipal Corporation and Summit County.
